When I first watched ATSV I thought Miguel's backstory was "my family (which had died in my universe) was alive in this other universe, and the me from that universe just died, so I took his place to be with my family again (who then, of course, all died in the glitch-fest)"

And like, damn imagine going from your "I couldn't save them" guilt in your universe to "I got them killed" guilt in the other universe. That would understandably mess someone up.

BUT, when I watched it a second time, it sounded like Miguel's actual backstory was more like "no I never had a family in my own universe or anything, but I found a universe where parallel!me DID have a family and he just died so I just went 'guess I'm Dad now'."

Which is like. Still very tragic but so much funnier. Miguel showed up one day and went "oh I died that sucks. hey that kid is my daughter now." without so much as a second thought. Scooped her up on sight. Reverse cuckoo-nested that kid. Home-unwrecked that family. Miguel O'Hara said "hey is anyone else gonna adopt my daughter?" and did not wait for an answer. FUNNIER if he just went "this is my wife now, too."

If he weren't so busy angsting and butt-modeling would he just haphazardly adopt all the under-18 Spidermen? Miguel "You don't have to go save your dad Miles I am your dad" O'Hara. Miguel "You said I could hold Mayday you never said I had to give her back" O'Hara. Miguel "I'm not mad I'm just disappointed in you Hobie" O'Hara.

Motherfucker's so afraid of sneezing and erasing a canon event otherwise he'd be fluffed up over a brood of spider-teens in his lair like the Batman-knockoff he was always meant to be.

Xiao looked at you, eyes wide as you proposed an idea to admire him.

“You…you’re lying, right? You’re definitely lying to me.”

“I’m not. Lemme treat you.”

His voice faltered, hesitant as they sucked in a breath- you caught a glimpse of his fangs protruding from his plush lips. Xiao's fists were curled like they were on the defensive, and for all you knew, they were. But you waited patiently. Watched as he looked at their scarred hands, nervously examining his nails  as they didn’t meet your gaze.

“I’m not gonna force you to do anything. It’s your call,” You added, softly. Whether Xiao acknowledged this or not, you didn’t know, eyes trailing them as he took a step forward, sitting at your feet. Placing his head in your lap as they looked up at you.

You stayed there, quiet for some time before Xiao sighed heavily.

“...Alright…I... I trust you.”

Lifting his hands once again, Xiao raised them to yours,  like it was their lifeline.

And for once, Xiao could say what they wanted to say, could initiate the conversations in a way they felt comfortable.

“Are you sure you're comfortable with me?”

“Of course, my love.”

“And…you don’t mind?”

“Hm?”

“I know my…features are a bit unsettling to look at but-”

“I don’t mind." You interrupt him, quickly adding, "Not at all. In fact, it’s quite the opposite- I admire you... May I?” You gesture to their face, and Xiao nods, letting you take their face into your hands. You run your thumbs across the apples of his cheeks- their skin is sunkissed, rosy hues blooming wherever your hands neared. You look at his lips, how the ends of their fangs poke through and leaning down, you press a kiss to Xiao's lips, softly, gently, chuckling lightly as their eyes widened for a split second, the light ambers and golds of his iris’s dancing in joy a you hear his breath falter.

“Beautiful,” you murmur, only loud enough so Xiao and Xiao alone could hear.

Again, the adepti's breath hitched, getting stuck in their throat as they stared at you, your loving gaze unfamiliar to them.

“Please…please don’t lie to me.”

“How could I lie to you? You’re the most beautiful being I’ve ever seen,”

“You don’t know that.”

It almost sounded like a plea of rejection coming from him. Your smile only grew as you got onto your knees, making sure that you were at eye level, that you were equal to them.

“I do. I do know that. It is a fact that can’t leave me, even in death.”

You watch Xiao, his lips wobbled as if they were about to cry, but you placed a finger on their lips.

“Please,” you start, “Let me make you feel good- how you deserve to feel."

And what could they do, but nod?
